Canadia 2056 – Episode 7

I haven’t done a whole lot of “hey listen to my show!” on this site… I think It’s been more about the challenges that I faced getting the show in on time…

In fact, I’ve never been very good at pimping myself.

But, this Friday’s episode, Episode 7, holds a special place in my heart. I was really struggling with writing that one. I spent a lot of time smoking through the night on the front porch, and I had very little on paper to show for my poser agony (oh look at me, I’m a writer, I’m suffering, I’m SMOKING). But then something clicked and I just wrote the thing. (I also went back on the patch, which I’m happy to report I am now officially off… 100% Nicotine Free… But I still suffer… ish).

And it’s one of my favorite episodes of the series. So, if anyone reads this and has been thinking over the last few months, “Oh, I really should catch this show” this is a good week to start listening (for me the series really took off half way through).

Anyway, here’s a clip from Episode 7, one of the scenes I really enjoyed writing and performing, and I think it came together nicely… Better than I could have ever hoped. This whole episode is great… To me.

Sorry, I feel weird… Promoting myself.

Hey… also… it’s my BIRTHDAY!!

Canadia – Finished…

Holy crap, am I tired.

So that’s it. We recorded the last episode on Wednesday. I’m done. DONE!

And yeah, now I’m sad. The whole thing went by so fast, I never really got to stop and enjoy it. I was always thinking, “Next episode, next episode…”

Episode 6 aired today, so that leaves 4 episodes left. I hope people continue to listen.

Overall, I’m pretty happy with the quality of the writing. I think I managed to write a couple of great episodes (along with a couple of clunkers.)

The two episodes that were co-written turned out great, and I’m glad I had Dave Tomlinson and Bryan Lee O’Malley to write them.

I couldn’t have done it at all without Joe Mahoney as my story editor – Thanks, Joe.

The cast and crew were fantastic to work with. The whole thing was a great ride, and I hope we get picked up for more. I left the story open ended and there’s nothing I’d like more than to do a second season.

(If you like the show, please comment on this blog or please contact the CBC.)

Meanwhile, on to the next thing. I’ve been comissioned to write a pilot for an animation company, so I’ll be working on that for the next bit, as well as a couple of vanity projects. I’m going to try and keep the writing momentum going.

After a nap.

Almost there…

I generally hate the weather. All of it. I wish we lived in a weatherless society. I don’t know what that would be like. Maybe like living inside a concrete bunker. Scratch that- that sounds horrible.

No wait, screw it, I like it… For the sake of this post, I wish we lived in a sub-terrainian dimly-lit, bland, bald-headed society. THX-1138. I wish we lived there.

But not today! (ahh, see? I have a point!)

It’s so lovely out there, in the sun, with all the sunshine, and the sunny… rays, and the blue sky and the heat that isn’t too hot, but just about right.

I want to be outside.

But I’m inside, writing THE LAST episode. That’s right, I’m down to the very last episode here. It’s quite exciting, except for the fact that I keep staring out the window… I’m not actually getting any work done, I’m surfing the web, hell even writing this stupid thing is a way of procrastinating.

Maybe I don’t want this job to end, despite the grueling schedule, because soon I will face the most upsetting question of all: What the fuck am I going to do next?

I’d like to say that I’m going to take some actual time off (meaning that I’m choosing to be unemployed) but I think that’d drive me crazy… So I’ll probably spend the summer hoplessly searching for work, or trying to create some stupid project that will never get off the ground.

It’s nice to see those positive affirmation tapes are paying off.

One left to write, three more to record.

Almost there.
